PROGRAMME

  • INDUSTRY DAY

The Industry Day features a diverse lineup of experts, set around three themes:

Synergies between Expo 2025 Osaka’s theme: ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’ and lean

Lean in Japan vs. the World

    Shaping the Future of Construction

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore practical solutions and real-world examples that showcase how lean methodologies can improve productivity and project efficiency.

Held at Expo 2025 Osaka, this event provides a unique platform for professionals to engage in meaningful discussions about best practices, challenges, and future directions in the construction industry. Networking opportunities with senior-level executives and decision-makers from the global construction community will allow participants to forge valuable connections and foster collaboration.

This portion of the conference promises to be a key event for those interested in enhancing the future of project delivery through innovation and collaboration, positioning lean principles at the heart of industry growth and resilience.

  • ACADEMIC CONFERENCE

The Academic Conference is meticulously designed to highlight the forefront of research, development, and industrial practices shaping the future of lean construction. It offers a chance to explore the latest advancements, gain critical insights, and engage in meaningful discussions with leading international experts and academics.

Over three days, attendees will experience a rich array of presentations and sessions covering key topics and emerging trends in lean construction.

This year, the scientific committee encourages papers to focus on the following themes:

Sustainability: The need for accelerating sustainability-related efforts is generally acknowledged.

Culture: Given the venue, especially the significance of the Japanese culture for explaining and understanding the emergence and various dimensions of the Toyota Production Systems, culture seems a pertinent theme.

Digital: The developments on the digital front have been rapid and wide. Now, addressing the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) seems especially timely.

Diffusion: Lean construction includes powerful methods and tools for improving construction. However, there uptake has been uneven among companies and countries. How to accelerate diffusion?

  • PHD SUMMER SCHOOL

The PhD Summer School is a long-running tradition of the IGLC. It has provided doctoral students worldwide a special opportunity to present their research and get feedback from a panel of experts in a very open yet challenging forum. Postgraduate students from both industry and academia in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry and related fields are invited to submit extended abstracts on Lean Construction research and application.

In this year’s edition an elite selection of students will get the opportunity to present their work in a structured way, followed by feedback and discussion. Help will be available for those who want to fine-tune their research methods or refine their problem statement. In addition to those students presenting their work (called presenters), there will also be an opportunity for eligible students to attend the event and be part of the discussion (called listeners), either as early-stage researchers or experienced ones.

Kyoto Institute of Technology, Villa KIT (kosen kaikan), 15-1 Matsugasaki Kuramadacho, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, 606-0956
