An Expo, or world exhibition, is a large-scale, long-term international public event at which nations show economic, social, cultural and/or social developments and innovations. Since the first World Expo of 1851, the event has served as a catalyst for economic (industrial) progress by bringing different nations and experts together in a single place. Today, these global events – made possible by Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) – aim at searching for joint solutions to fundamental challenges facing humanity.
Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan is a unique platform to unite nations and drive innovation. The International Group for Lean Construction (IGLC) represents an international network of practitioners, researchers from practice and academia in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) who feel that the status quo practice, education, and research of its industry must be radically renewed in order to respond to the global challenges ahead.
The IGLC annual conference has been held around the world, its 33rd edition taking place in Osaka & Kyoto. Japan is the birthplace of lean principles. The Lean Principles align with the overall Expo theme of “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” by promoting efficiency, sustainability in construction, and innovation in architecture, urban development and construction processes. By minimising waste and optimising resources, Lean construction enables the creation of smart, resilient cities that enhance quality of life and address global challenges, driving meaningful progress for a sustainable future.
INTERNATIONAL GROUP OF LEAN CONSTRUCTION
Founded in 1993, the International Group of Lean Construction (IGLC; www.iglc.net) is an international network of researchers from practice and academia in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) who feel that the practice, education, and research of the AEC industry have to be radically renewed in order to respond to the global challenges ahead.
As the premier annual gathering for professionals in the field, the IGLC conference serves as a melting pot of knowledge, innovation, and collaboration. With its rotating locations among different continents, this global conference continually brings together a diverse community of researchers and practitioners from both industry and academia.
The IGLC conference provides a unique platform for individuals passionate about lean construction to come together and engage in insightful discussions.
